I heard a great quote last night. It packs a “punch” and
causes you to think. Would you like to read it?
OK, here it is: “We cannot become what we want to be by
remaining what we are.” – Max Depree
Read over that again. Think about it. The easiest thing to
do is to remain what you are. There is little challenge or motivation in
remaining the same. But by remaining the same NOTHING will change. One year
from now will not be much different than today except you will be another year
older and the habits in your life will be another year ingrained in you. Is
that an alarming thought? Is there any real, lasting motivation to staying the
same? I don’t think so!
The alternative is to CHANGE. We can live a life of humdrum, status quo
existence or we can choose to change and experience a vibrant, challenging and
thrilling way of life. The problem is that we all too often (or at least I do this)
read quotes like I have shared with you and then we think of EVERYTHING that
can or should be changed in our lives in order to become what we want to be.
Thinking of EVERYTHING usually swamps me and in a day or two I am in the rut of
the same ole same ole – and in time very little changes. So, let’s just think
of one little thing we could do today that just might make tomorrow a little
different than today.
So what ONE task can you do today that you know you ought to
do? You really don’t have to think hard about it. If you ask yourself that
question; I’m guessing the answer will pop in your head pretty quickly. Just one
task, not a huge undertaking; just one little something that you know you can
and should do. Maybe it is a note you should write. Perhaps there is a call to
make. That pile of stuff you have been avoiding for weeks – maybe thirty
minutes of action will do far more than thirty minutes of thinking about it. Your Bible has been waiting patiently for you to pick it up and read a chapter, or maybe even and entire book.
So
what is IT for you? Got it in mind? Now decide you will do something about it
before you go to bed tonight.
The bottom line really is that you will not become what you
want to be by remaining what you are. This is true about your social life, your
physical life, your emotional life and your spiritual life.
Do a little something different today and in time you will
be a different person in your tomorrows!
