Can you read?
Well, I would assume because you are here that you can read.
So now the question is “Do you read?” To be able to read and
to fail to do so would be the waste of a great skill. There is certainly truth
to the saying that “Readers are leaders and leaders are readers.” Should you
make the simple choice to read just five pages a day you will be well ahead of
most of your peers and you will make personal, vocational and spiritual
advancement in your life just by reading.
I trust you read the Bible. I love the
message of Psalm 119:99; “I
have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my
meditation.” Reading God’s Word will do more for you than you can imagine; so
give it a try.
Why not commit to reading a portion of the Bible everyday this
month. I always enjoy reading through the book of Psalms. One unique approach
is to read the Psalm for the day and then add 30 to that and then do that
again, and again, and... you get the idea. You will read five chapters each day. Today you will read
Psalm 1, 31, 61, 91, and 121. Tomorrow you will read Psalm 2, 32, 62, 92, and
122. You will be amazed at the connections you will see between the various
Psalms that you will be reading.
Along
with reading the Bible; there are lots of good books for you to read. What is a
favorite book you have read that has built you up in the faith? What are you
reading now? Do you only read one book at a time or do you have bookmarks in
three or more books like I do?
Through
reading you can learn from people you may never meet in person but they can
have a significant impact on your life through what they have written. Don’t be
afraid to read a little wider or broader than your “tradition” or your own
comfort zone. You will find some great nuggets of truth; some mind expanding
thoughts and faith building truths as you read from authors that are outside
the list of your “favorites.”
So
what’s stopping you? You can read. You do read. WHAT will you read this month?
You are only 5 pages away from the start of a life changing habit. After you
read your Bible; find a book and read. You will be a better person for it.
Now, I must get back to my book,
Pastor Mike
