Church Discipline

"Church Discipline" sounds imposing to many. Some think it is antiquated. Some think it is not necessary in this day and age. But I have not read anywhere where the Lord changed His mind on the instruction given in Matthew 18. He laid out the guidelines for dealing with a sinning brother. He gave the process for the effective administration of church discipline.

What we need to realize is that Church Discipline is not something you do "TO" a person, it is something you do "FOR" a person. Like disciplining your own children, it is not about doing something "to" them; it is doing something "for" them. You administer discipline to help them to grow, mature, change, learn and ultimately to help them become a better person.

Hebrews 12:6 (ESV)
6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives."

Since the Lord "disciplines the one he loves" then we should realize; that where there is no discipline there is no love.

That's something to think about,

Pastor Mike
