So How Important is the Gathering of the Church to You?

On Sunday, I referenced an article in the Summerville News that reports only 18% of the people in Chatooga County attend Church services over the weekend. (Click HERE to read the article) Obviously this means that 82% are not gathered with a body of believers any where on any given Sunday.

I am not so sure the stats would be any different for Floyd County.

As believers, as Christ followers, as professed Christians we do not "go" to Church; we "ARE" the church. But we must also remember that the "Church" gathers for corporate worship on Sunday's so we do have a place to go that should be an important part of our Christian life.

This morning I read a blog post that said:

"Making church a non-negotiable Sunday morning habit will increase your love for the church as it takes a higher priority in your life and you see the blessings from it. It also communicates to an unbelieving world and to your family about what matters to you. You could play golf on Sunday, sleep in or make money, but when you get up early to serve others in your local church, it shouts loud and clear about what you value in this world. And when you devalue it by not making it a consistent priority, you do the opposite. For example, when a dad casually misses church but rearranges his life to coach soccer and never misses a game, this choice of priority will not be lost on his children. It is simply a matter of what is most important, and the pastor is no exception. Sunday should always remain the highlight of the week."

Let's each determine to do our part to be salt and light in this decaying and darkening world. Let's decide to be faithful in gathering with the church on Sunday so we can live like the church during the rest of the week.

I am preparing for Sunday April 19. We will gather for worship through fellowship, singing, giving and sitting under the ministry of the Word. This Sunday we will discover "The Question that is as old as humanity and as current as today's news."
